“Is this it?” Lucas whispered, his hand trembling as he reached for the plastic casing.
As soon as his fingers brushed the tape, the lights in the store surged. The hum of the neon sign grew into a deafening roar. Outside, the sky shifted from a deep Indiana purple to a bruised, swirling red. Then came the scream. It wasn't a human sound. It was the sound of a thousand tearing echoes, a screech that vibrated in their very marrow. On the other side, the Mind Flayer—a spider-like titan made of storm clouds and malice—loomed, reaching out with limbs that spanned miles.
