In recent years, the daily volume of Usenet has grown at a staggering pace.

Usenet volume refers to the total amount of data—both text discussions and binary files—transferred and stored across the decentralized network of news servers daily. While originally a text-heavy medium, modern Usenet volume is overwhelmingly dominated by binary data, such as software, video, and large archives.

To maintain "retention" (the history of posts), major providers must store over 60 petabytes of data to cover roughly 12 years of history. Factors Driving Volume Growth

As of mid-2024, the daily Usenet feed size has exceeded 360 terabytes (TB) . Some metrics from 2024–2026 indicate spikes as high as 475 TB to 500 TB per day.
