During a secret bombing mission over Laos in 1965, American pilot Dieter Dengler (played by ) is shot down and captured by Pathet Lao guerrillas. He is sent to a brutal POW camp where he meets fellow prisoners, including Duane Martin (Steve Zahn) and Gene DeBruin (Jeremy Davies).
