Elias spun around. The corner of his room was empty. The air was cold, smelling of ozone and old paper.

He looked back at the screen. The shadow was gone. In its place, the video feed had changed. It showed his apartment, but it was thirty years younger. The wallpaper was different; a child’s wooden blocks were scattered across the rug where his desk now sat.
